The Open Linux Router Project is a very interesting offering that emphasizes a simple interface that allows users to configure the router and add new features without excessive technical knowledge about the device.  Even though this project is early stage, it is part of a growing interest in using open source offerings to compete with much larger  and established companies such as Microsoft, Oracle and Cisco.

Tricky Issue - Why Management Doesn't Get IT Security

A must read article on the Bruce Schneier weblog which states "Most C-level executives view security as an operational issue -- kind of like facilities management -- and not as a strategic review. As such, they don't have direct responsibility for security.".  Another important point is that cost of business operation is a strong point when attempting to get other business concerns and leaders to concern themselves with security.  This article also discusses what Information Security personnel can do to address these visiblity issues.

Technology Leaders Are Increasingly Concerned About Private Identities

Rsa_button_15yearsSecurity Focus reports on the growing concern by the leaders of technology companies including Microsoft, RSA, SUN and others about the security of private identities.  These leaders expressed their concern at the recent RSA Conference held in San Jose earlier this month.  One of the key highlights from these leaders comments is the need to more securely authenicate users prior to granting access to sites, data and other critical  applications.  There have been too many breaches of late and accurately verifying someones identity before granting access is critical for the gowth and stability of the Internet and our economy.
